let's talk

Prompt It or Build It

One of these gets you a site today. The other gets you a site your marketing team can still change in two years.

They are not really competitors, because they answer different questions, and the comparison only gets useful once you name yours.

What you get from each, what you give up, and the one thing that should decide it.

What the AI builder is genuinely better at

**Getting from nothing to something.** An empty page is expensive for humans and free for a model. If you are testing whether an idea deserves a site at all, prompting one is the correct move and anything else is procrastination dressed up as process.

**Cheap disposability.** A landing page for one campaign, a microsite for one event, a page that will not exist in six weeks. Nobody should be building those by hand any more, and no agency should be charging for them as if it were 2018.

**Speed of iteration inside one page.** Three versions of a section in ten minutes, argued about properly, is a better process than one version defended for a week.

What Webflow is still better at

**Being edited by someone who is not technical.** This is the whole argument. A marketing manager adds a case study, swaps a headline, publishes a post, and nobody opens a code editor. Collections rather than pages is what makes that survive fifty entries rather than five.

**Not falling apart when the structure changes.** Adding a language, a blog, a careers section, a second product line. On a platform these are known moves. In generated code they are a rewrite, because the generator had no idea any of it was coming.

**Hosting, SSL, backups and the update path, as one number.** What the plan includes is unglamorous and it is the reason nobody on your team has to think about a server.

**Handover.** The site can be transferred to the client's own account, with the client's own login. Generated code lives wherever the person who generated it left it, which is the quiet way sites get lost.

The question that actually decides it

Not which is more modern. Ask: **who changes this page in eight months, and what happens the first time they need to?**

If the answer is a developer, and there will reliably be one, generated code is fine and often better. If the answer is your marketing person, a founder at 11pm, or nobody in particular, you need a system built for editing, and that is a platform decision rather than a taste one.

The second question is what happens to your current URLs. If the site already ranks, keeping the rankings through the move is worth more than everything else on this page combined, and it is the thing no builder does for you.

Why we use both

We prompt our way through exploration: layouts, motion ideas, the third and fourth version of a section that nobody would have had time to draw. Then the thing that goes live is built properly, in Webflow or in Next.js when the site has to compute something.

The AI shortens the part of the project where nothing is decided yet. It does not shorten the part where decisions have consequences, and pretending it does is how three-week projects become three-month ones.

That is not a compromise position. It is what using the tools well looks like when somebody is accountable for the result.

Questions we get asked

Is an AI website builder better than Webflow?

For a first draft or a disposable campaign page, yes, and it is not close. For a site a non-technical person must maintain for years, no. The deciding factor is who edits it after launch, not which tool produces the nicer first screen.

Can I move an AI-generated site into Webflow later?

You rebuild it rather than import it. The design and the copy carry over; the code does not. Budget for that if you are treating the generated version as a prototype, which is usually the healthiest way to treat it.

Do AI-built websites rank on Google?

They can. Google ranks pages, not the tool that produced them. What sinks generated sites is practical: no heading hierarchy, images shipped uncompressed, thin category-level copy and no internal links. All fixable, none of it automatic.
