Web design agency for startups: what the budget really buys
$1,000: one page doing one job. A landing page with a clear offer, proof and one call to action, built from a design that exists or a simple custom one. Enough to launch, take sign-ups and test a message.
$2,000 to $3,000: a small site. Four to six pages, a custom design, a blog or case studies on a CMS your team can edit, basic SEO set up. This is where most early-stage startups should land.
$4,000 to $5,000: a fuller marketing site. More layouts, a second language or a pricing and features structure, more motion, more care on every breakpoint.
Above that, you are paying for more pages, integrations or a design system, not for a better version of the same small site. The full breakdown of ranges is in what a website costs.
Who publishes a price in this range
Very few. Looking at agencies in a recent Webflow development roundup and their own pricing pages, most say the price depends on scope, and those that publish numbers usually start at $10,000 for a marketing site or sell monthly retainers.
The nearest published options we found were a design subscription at $1,999 a month (VictorFlow) and Figma to Webflow builds from $5,000 when you bring a finished design (Creative Corner Studio). Both are real options, just different models.
Crency publishes a fixed starting price: websites from $1,000, usually live in about three weeks, with design included. We say that not because we are the only answer, but because a published number is the first thing a founder on a budget needs.
Three ways to get a good site for under $5,000
A project-based agency with a fixed price. You get design, build and launch for one agreed number and a date. Best when you want it done and handed over, and when you would rather not manage the work yourself.
A design subscription. A monthly fee for ongoing design and development. Best when you will keep shipping pages every month; expensive if you only need one site, because you keep paying after it is live.
A strong freelancer. Often the cheapest for a build from a finished design. Best when the scope is clear and you can manage the project. See agency or freelancer for the trade-off.
Questions that keep a $3,000 quote at $3,000
Is design included, or only development from my Figma file? Many low prices assume you bring the design.
How many pages and how many distinct layouts are in the price? Ten pages from two templates cost far less than ten different pages.
Who owns the site, the design files and the accounts after launch? It should be you, from day one.
What happens when I need a new page in three months? A site your team can edit on a CMS saves you a new invoice every time. That is one reason we build on Webflow for most startups.
One idea, four words
HikeMind had to fit a whole positioning, brand, data and AI as one service, into four words. That decision, not the page count, is what made the site work.
It is also the cheapest part of any website, because it costs thinking rather than hours. A small budget spent on a sharp first screen beats a big budget spent on twenty vague pages.
Questions we get asked
How much does a startup website cost from an agency?
A landing page usually starts around $1,000, a small four to six page site with a CMS around $2,000 to $3,000, and a fuller marketing site $4,000 to $5,000 or more. Many agencies only quote on request, and published agency prices often start at $10,000.
Can I get a custom website for $1,000?
Yes, for one focused page: a landing page with a clear offer, proof and one action. For several pages with a CMS, plan on $2,000 to $3,000.
Is a design subscription better than a one-off project for a startup?
Only if you will keep shipping new pages every month. For a single launch site, a fixed-price project is usually cheaper, because a subscription keeps billing after the site is live.
Which agencies publish prices for startup websites?
Few do. Among agencies we checked, the closest published options were a $1,999 per month design subscription and Figma to Webflow builds from $5,000. Crency publishes websites from $1,000 with design included.
