let's talk

Off the Template

Moving from Squarespace to Webflow is not a transfer. It is a rebuild that keeps your words.

That sounds worse than it is: the words, the pictures and the addresses carry the value, and all three come with you.

What moves, what gets remade, and the one step that decides whether Google notices you left.

Squarespace to Webflow migration: what actually moves

Text and images. Squarespace can export pages and blog posts to a WordPress-format file, and that file can be reshaped into a CSV for a Webflow collection. The layouts, sections and styling stay behind. There is no export that produces a working site anywhere else.

Your URLs, if you keep them. Squarespace gives pages tidy slugs, and the ones that already rank are worth more than any structure you might prefer. Keep them where you can and redirect the rest.

Your domain. It moves with a DNS change, and the moment it changes is the moment the redirect map has to be live already.

Form submissions, newsletter lists and store data each leave by their own export. Name them early. The week before launch is a bad time to discover the mailing list lived inside Squarespace.

What gets remade

Every layout. This is where the time goes, and it is also the point. If the reason for leaving is that the site looks like its template, a copy of the template on new software solves nothing. Read why sites in a category look alike before deciding what the new one keeps.

The content structure. A Squarespace blog is a blog. If team members, services, locations or case studies live as separate hand-built pages, the move is the moment they become collections your team edits as items rather than as layouts.

The built-in extras. Scheduling, member areas and the store each need a decision: replace with a dedicated tool, embed, or keep on a subdomain. If the store is the business, read what Webflow cannot do first.

Keeping the traffic

Crawl the live Squarespace site before anything else and export every address that returns a page. That list, not the navigation and not anyone's memory, is the source of truth.

Every address gets a row: old URL, new URL. Pages with no replacement point at the nearest relevant page, never at the homepage, which Google treats much like a missing page.

Squarespace blogs often grow category and tag pages nobody designed. Check which of them actually get visits before deciding they can go.

Set the redirects in Webflow before switching DNS. The launch-day checks are the same as for any platform change and are covered in moving without losing rankings.

When to stay on Squarespace

When the site is a brochure and the business does not sell through it. Squarespace does that well and cheaply, and the three ceilings that push people off it may never arrive.

When nobody will edit the site after launch. Webflow's advantage is structure your team can use. If nobody will use it, the advantage stays theoretical.

When the real reason is boredom with the design. That is a redesign, and it can happen on the platform you already pay for.

Evidence, not a template

Utah Leather Repair sells restoration, and restoration only sells on evidence. So the whole hero is evidence: the range of work in one frame, before a single claim is made.

That is the kind of decision a template cannot make for you. A template has a hero slot. It does not know that for this business the hero has to be proof.

If you are moving because the site stopped fitting the business, settle that question first. The platform change is the easy half.

Questions we get asked

How do I migrate from Squarespace to Webflow?

Crawl the live site and list every URL, export the blog and reshape it into a CSV for a Webflow collection, rebuild the layouts in Webflow, then set a redirect for every changed URL before the domain switches. The rebuild is the visible work. The URL list and the redirects decide whether the traffic follows.

Can I export my Squarespace site to Webflow?

Only the content. Squarespace exports pages and blog posts in a WordPress-format file, which can be converted for a Webflow import. The design, layouts and styling do not export to any platform, so the site itself is rebuilt.

Will I lose SEO moving from Squarespace to Webflow?

Not if every URL is kept or redirected. Expect two to four unsettled weeks while Google recrawls the site. Drops that last longer come from missing redirects, not from the platform.

How much does a Squarespace to Webflow migration cost?

Because the layouts are rebuilt, it prices close to a new site of the same size. A small marketing site usually sits in our $1k–$3k or $3k–$7k bands. A store, member areas and many distinct layouts move it up. What a migration costs has the full breakdown.
